FAQ

What is a prediction market?

Prediction markets let people buy and sell outcome shares for future events. Prices act as a probability signal (for example, $0.20 implies a 20% chance), and winning shares settle at $1. Trading reflects your view and prices update as new information arrives.

Polymarket vs. polling

Polling is a snapshot that can be outdated by the time it is published. Prediction markets update in real time and are driven by financial incentives. The docs cite the Wisdom of Crowds and the Iowa Electronic Markets as evidence for market accuracy.

Can I sell early?

Yes. You can close a position before a market resolves via a market order (sell at the current bid) or a limit order (sell at a specified price if a buyer accepts).

Is Polymarket the house?

No. Trades are peer-to-peer and prices are set by supply and demand. The docs state there are no trading fees and no deposit or withdrawal fees, and you can exit before resolution if there is liquidity.

Why crypto?

Polymarket runs on Polygon and uses USDC for settlement. The docs highlight stable value, regulated reserves, transparent onchain settlement, and global access as the main reasons.
